Industrialist Manu Chandaria has donated Sh100 million to Getrude's Children's hospital.
A statement sent to the newsroom by Gertrude's foundation said the money will be spent on a new ICU expected to be complete by March 2013.
The new unit will be called "The Chandaria Medical Centre ”. It will include a modern diagnostic centre in the basement and an enhanced 10 bed ICU on the second floor with an adjacent four bed high dependency unit.
It will be built on four levels to accommodate a dedicated surgical ward on the first floor with adequate provision for outpatient clinics on the ground floor. The project is seen as a great milestone towards the hospitals' aspiration of becoming the regional centre of excellence in pediatrics.
