Ruto in Murang'a, CSs to lead tree-planting in counties

President William Ruto is today expected to lead the national tree-planting drive from Murang'a County.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be in Samburu for the drive aimed at increasing the country’s forest cover by a further one billion trees.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is set to lead teams in Chogoria, Tharaka Nithi county, accompanied by area leaders.

A schedule seen by the Star reveals that each of the 22 Cabinet secretaries will lead the tree-planting drive in various counties.

The CSs have also been assigned the roles of following up the progress of the trees that would be planted in the national forestation campaign.

Environment CS Soipan Tuya will lead the campaign in Vihiga and Samburu and is expected to plant 6.5 million trees at the end of the campaign.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki will lead the drive in five counties-Marsabit, Mandera, Turkana, Garissa and Wajir-, with a target of 2.8 million trees.

Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi will lead the tree-planting campaign in Makueni and Samburu, with a target of two million trees.

Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has been assigned the counties of Kilifi and Bungoma and has an assignment to plant a million trees.

Public Service CS Moses Kuria has been assigned Bungoma, Kisumu, and Siaya counties, with a target of 2.5 million trees.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu will lead the exercise in Trans Nzoia and Migori (Migori Forest) and has a target of 2.7 million trees.

ICT's Eliud Owalo has been assigned Nandi and Kisii in which he is expected to plant one million trees.

Labour CS Florence Bore is set to be in Bomet and Nyamira for the campaign and has a target of one million trees.

Water CS Zacharia Njeru is headed to Kajiado and Kiambu for the drive and has a target of 1.8 million trees.

Tourism’s Alfred Mutua is set to lead the planting of trees in Kitui and Taita Taveta, with a target of 2.8 million trees.

Blue Economy CS Salim Mvurya will lead the drive in Tana River and Lamu, while Gender CS Aisha Jumwa will be in charge of Kakamega and Kwale.

Defence CS Aden Duale has been dispatched to Isiolo and Nakuru counties and has a target of 2.8 million trees.

His Roads counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen will be in Homa Bay and Mombasa, where his efforts are to help 5.6 million trees grow.

Health CS Susan Nakhumicha has been assigned Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot, with a target of one million, while Cooperatives CS Simon Chelugui is to lead the drive in Uasin Gishu and Murang'a.

Trade CS Rebecca Miano will be in Embu and Narok where she is expected to lead the planting and conservation of one million trees.

Energy’s Davis Chirchir will be in Kericho and Baringo counties, while Treasury’s Njuguna Ndung’u will be in Machakos and Nyandarua.

EAC CS Peninah Malonza will lead the drive in Meru and Busia, while Lands CS Alice Wahome will be in Nyeri and Laikipia, with a total target of 2.7 million trees.
