Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Mohamed Amin has called upon security agencies in Trans Nzoia County to concert their efforts in fight against crime.

Amin recommended that they embrace multi-agency cooperation to curb the prevalent smuggling of goods and cattle rustling in the region.

He spoke on Monday at different venues including camps, posts and stations that host members of the National Police Service, during the commencement of his three-day working tour in the North Rift region where he is representing the Inspector General.

The Director noted that criminal cartels have been infiltrating the farm produce-rich region by interfering with the operations of the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), to frustrate government efforts to improve food security in the country.

"Criminal cartels lodged in this county have infiltrated the NCPB and are shamelessly smuggling government's subsidized fertilizer to neighbouring countries. This is denying our farmers the opportunity to increase production, which is a sabotage to the government's efforts of reviving the economy," he said.

Consequently, he called upon all security operators and customs officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to exercise greater agility in monitoring operations at the Suam border.

He directed them to firmly enforce laws that control the movement of persons and goods into and out of the country.

This comes barely six weeks since he visited the same region to assess the security situation and take stock of the challenges faced by NPS officers in executing their mandate.

Starting at Suam Border Post which connects Kenya and Uganda, Amin moved to and addressed officers at the Chepchoina GSU Camp, before advancing to GSU Miti Mbili Camp, Anti - Stock Theft Unit 'K' Coy and KPS, APS and DCI officers based at Chepchoina and Endebes.

Accompanying him are Director of Personnel Francis Ndiema, Director of Operations Richard Mwaura, PA to the DCI Lawrence Some, RCIO Rift Valley Charles Mwangi Kanyuira and CCIO Trans Nzoia Francis Githinji Kihara among others.
