President William Ruto has said that amid the many challenges Africa faces, its unity is its strength.

Speaking at the opening session of the International Development Association (IDA21) summit in Nairobi, Ruto said the African continent must remain focused on safeguarding its future.

"Faced with the relentless challenge of climate change and escalating instability, our unity is our strength.

"Despite the myriad forces that threaten to divide us, we must remain focused on the ultimate goal: safeguarding the future of our civilization, the human race, and the diverse life forms that share our planet," the President said.

He insisted that Africa is eager to be part of the people providing solutions.

He noted that the continent offers a viable and promising pathway to a future of prosperity for all humanity, with her rich resources and innovative spirit.

Ruto said Africa is committed to empowering the African Union Commission to engage the rest of the world on its behalf.

He said they are also determined to give the oversight of the AUC role to the Pan-African Parliament.

"We are committed to empowering the African Union Commission to make it fit for purpose, with the capacity to engage the rest of the world on behalf of Africa, reform the Pan-African Parliament to enhance oversight and accountability over the Commission and establish an African Court of Justice," Ruto added.

The President in his address also said that Africa is not only seeking funding but also partnerships that can ensure its progress.

He said these nations propose a robust plan for Climate Positive Growth, aligning with the Nairobi Declaration from last year's Africa Climate Summit, to ensure stable, dignified, and sustainable livelihoods across the continent.

Ruto said with enough support, Africa will be able to transform its agriculture, water security, and energy access.

He added that the continent will also be able to create job opportunities for over 4 million youths entering the job market monthly.

He insisted that the continent is committed to exploring African-led initiatives as they pursue these opportunities.

"We aim to control our destiny, managing our resources responsibly and sustainably, to drive Africa’s industrialization agenda using our abundant energy, mineral and human capital resources.

"Our commitment is to transparency and accountability in our socio-economic development plans, ensuring the efficient and effective use of IDA funds," Ruto said.
