Complaints from UDA elections must be filed in 48 hours – Mdivo

UDA grassroots elections are set to begin on Friday

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party now says that any complaints that may arise from the coming party grassroots elections must be filed within 48 hours.

In a statement, the party's Electoral Disputes Resolution Committee chairperson Joy Mdivo said the complaints will be lodged electronically, via email.

"Any complaint on the election will be required to be filed within 48 hours after the decision complained about or after close of polling," Mdivo said.

"Complaints will be lodged electronically via the email provided on the UDA website that is [email protected]," she said.

She urged members of the ruling party and especially candidates to familiarise with the governing rules.

She said the rules are available on UDA's website.

Mdivo also assured members that the party's National Elections Board has put in place measures to ensure the election is free fair and transparent.

She added that the EDRC is also ready to handle disputes that may arise from the elections.

"We wish to assure our members that the committee is ready to adequately resolve any dispute that will be brought before it for adjudication in a timely, free, fair and impartial manner."

Her statement comes ahead of UDA's first phase of grassroots elections, which will start on Friday.

This phase will include Nairobi, Narok, West-Pokot, Busia and Homa Bay counties.

Last week, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala said the elections will be conducted digitally, noting that it is a milestone in the democracy of the country.

He assured members of a free and fair exercise ahead of the phased  grassroots elections.

"I want to assure you that the UDA elections which are set to begin on 26 will be free and fair. UDA is the first party to conduct grassroots elections from the polling centres to the nationals," he said on Saturday.

The second phase of the grassroots polls will be on June 22, 2024, in 13 counties.

These are Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Machakos, Kisii, Bungoma, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Wajir, Tana River, Kwale and Marsabit.

The third phase will be held on August 10 across 15 counties of Kiambu, Embu, Kericho, Meru, Migori, Kakamega, Nyamira, Kitui, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, Kajiado, Mandera, Kilifi, Murang’a and Lamu.

The last phase will take place on August 24, 2024 in 12 counties.

The counties to participate are Nakuru, Bomet, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nandi, Baringo, Turkana, Laikipia, Trans-Nzoia, Kisumu, Vihiga and Makueni.
