Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has dismissed the government's statements on dealing with state officials holding fake academic certificates.
Speaking on TV 47 on Thursday, Kioni said the discussion on fake degrees is a diversionary tactic employed by the government to keep Kenyans from debating more pressing issues.
"When you hear somebody saying those without certificates will go first, to me, it's just hot air," he said.
Kioni stated that the government should be fixing the failing sectors, claiming that most senior officials are the "mess'.
He proposed that the state should be mindful of the people it hires and ensure they meet the Constitutional criteria to avoid the issues that are stressing the public.
His remarks come shortly after President William Ruto told the affected individuals to resign and refund monies earned as salaries, saying they have been earning through false pretence.
"Those who are in government offices should leave, they should resign and go away and look for money to pay us back," he said.
"We must deal firmly, decisively with corruption, there is a lot of wastage, their wastage and outright theft in the public space and with a lot of impunity, we can put more resources into development."
Speaking on Wednesday during the Third National Wage Bill conference at Bomas, the President said the government has already stabilised what it needed in terms of corruption.
Ruto promised that going forward, the government will deal with corruption head-on in counties and national governments.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua alleged that he has a list of senior government officials who are holding fake degrees.
He said the list was handed to him by some individuals from Nairobi’s River Road who claimed they helped the officials obtain the certificates.
"Many people in the government, even some who are sitting here with you, most of them their papers ziko na dosari," he said.
Gachagua said he would submit the list of the said individuals to the President.
"These people of River Road have been looking for me saying I am complaining saying they have helped quite a number of people including so and so...I will give you the list which I was given of the people who have been helped," he said.
