Police in Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu County have recovered a cache of weapons after busting a suspected criminal gang operating in the area during Easter operations.

In an intelligence-led operation led by the newly posted Masogo Officer Commanding Station Wycliffe Kwendo and his Ngere Kagoro counterparts, the weapons believed to have been used in various criminal activities in the area were nabbed.

The area, police said, has seen a steady rise in cases of organised crimes for some time now.

The crackdown - after a tipoff from the public - was part of the security operations to flash out the suspected notorious gang known popularly known as 'Katalang or Genge squad'.

"We have tried to warn the gang members in the presence of their parents, whatever their plans we cannot allow. Let the law take its course," Kwendo said after the operation that netted over eight youths.

Among the crude weapons recovered from the gang are pangas, iron rods, rungus, arrows, and other assorted weapons.

Police suspect the weapons were to be used during the Easter season.

"If anyone thinks we shall step back the war on these criminal gangs, then you are mistaken. The security apparatus will not rest until we make our area safe."
