Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua now says her Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka should focus on marketing himself to the people of Kenya.

In a statement on Friday, Karua said the voters will decide who is best at the ballot.

"My unsolicited advice to my brother Kalonzo Musyoka is to focus on marketing himself and leave the decision of who is best to the voters," Karua said.

Her remarks were in response to a report by Taifa Leo, where Kalonzo is quoted to have said that he is the best man to take charge of the Azimio coalition, should Raila Odinga become the next African Union Commission chairman.

The daily also highlighted an alleged split within the Opposition coalition over who its leader will be in the 2024 general election.

Kalonzo has deputised Raila in his quest to become president twice, in 2013 and 2017. Karua also deputised Raila in the 2022 presidential election.

The Wiper party leader has since the beginning of 2024 stepped up his campaign to become the Azimio flagbearer in 2027.

He insists that he is the best man for the job, a move that leaves many guessing what will happen to Karua who has seemingly taken a back seat in the affairs of Azimio.

The coalition, however, insists that it remains intact and that there is no such thing as a division.

Last year, Kalonzo said that not being on the ballot in 2027 will only mean that he retires from active politics.

"Giving up my presidential ambition (for Raila) will mean I go home. It's as simple as that. Giving up my presidential ambition is not an option. The country is saying so and this time he (William Ruto) better be ready. The country is seeing it, the stars are aligned," he said in January.

Kalonzo continues to front himself as the best person to take over the mantle in Azimio after Raila lost his fifth stab at the presidency.

He also announced plans to start early campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Leaders allied to his Wiper party also insist that he is the best man for the job.

This week, Kalonzo took his campaigns to the two counties of Kisii where he opened party offices and member recruitment drives in a bid to strengthen the party.

He has been on other such tours across the country.
