Ruto to open Kakamega International Investment Conference

The four day forum will see the county sign several MOUs with various investors

President William Ruto is expected to officially open the Kakamega County International Investment Conference on Wednesday.

The four-day forum which started on Tuesday will see the Fernandes Barasa-led county sign  Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) with various investors.

The event at the Masinde Muliro University is themed ‘Opening up Counties as the New Frontiers for Investment and Development’.

During a pre-conference briefing on  Tuesday, Barasa said he will use the opportunity to woo investors to various fields ranging from agriculture, agri-business, medical, education and social sectors.

The governor said his government was looking for investors to operationalise the Malava Dairy Factory, the Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital which is touted to become the largest referral health facility in the country with a capacity of 700 beds and investment in the hospitality industry.

“We need investors in the hostel sector to provide accommodation to over 21,000 students at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology(MMUST) as well as the over 14,000 students at Sigalagala National Polytechnic” he added.

The US Ambassador to Kenya Margaret Whitman is also expected to attend the conference where she will speak on the economic empowerment of women.

Foreign dignitaries, local and international companies’ government representatives, foreign mission representatives, and development partners among others are expected to attend the conference.
