President William Ruto took over his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta's aide-de-Camp Brig Timothy Stelu Lekolool on Tuesday.

This happened immediately after Uhuru handed over instruments of power to Ruto.

Brig Lekolool saluted and immediately crossed over and stood behind Ruto, who was sworn in at 12:45 pm as Kenya's fifth president.

Lekolool, who was in July, 2022, promoted to the rank of Brigadier, was appointed to the position of ADC in 2018.

Though largely ceremonial, the ADC is one of the persons that stay closest to the President at all times including riding in the same car.

Officials said he will continue to act as the ADC until when Ruto decides to name a new one.

The ADC is the military officer who stands behind the President and accompanies him at all events.

He represents the military in the presidency because the president is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

The primary role of the ADC is to be the president’s personal assistant and provide security if need be.

Also some of the roles of ADC include receiving gifts and other items on behalf of the president.

For now, Brig Lekolool is also expected to provide advice and assistance to hosts of official functions on behalf of the President.

Ruto also inherited chief bodyguard Pepita Ranka from the Presidential Escort Unit.

He is also expected to make changes in the men who will protect him.

His current head of security Joshua Yemboi is among those considered to take over from Presidential Escort Commander Senior Assistant Inspector General of police Josephat Mbuthia Kirimi.

Major changes are also expected in the National Police Service in the coming days.

Lekolool's father is a former long-serving Provincial Commissioner Francis Lekolool, who passed away in 2013.

Former President Daniel arap Moi started off in 1978 with Major Macharia, who was also Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's ADC.

He was later replaced by Major Peter Ngugi Ikenye before Col Wilson Boinett took over the role.

Boinnet is also a former Director-General of the National Security Intelligence Service.

Col Alexander Sitienei took over from Boinnet before Lt-Col Jonathan Rono came in, followed by Col Stephen Boiywo who retired with Moi.

Former President Mwai Kibaki started off with Lt-Col J Mrashui, who was then replaced by Lt-Col Godfrey King’ang'i.

King'ang'i chose to retire and join politics hence he was replaced on Inauguration Day after Uhuru took over as Commander in Chief in 2013.
