Two students drowned in a dam at Kaptumo near
Eldoret
in Uasin
Gishu
on Saturday.
One of the girls was a secondary school student while the other victim was a pupil in a primary school.
Residents have retrieved one body and are waiting for divers to help recover the other.
"We are appealing to the government to help us find the remaining body. This is a tragic incident that has claimed young lives," said a resident Ben Rotich.
He said the students had gone to wash clothes at the dam on Saturday evening and it is not clear how they drowned.
Rotich said they have informed the police about the incident.
Residents say the dam endangers lives.
"The dam is so risky and we urge the government to help us fence it so that we can protect the lives of residents living near it," Rotich said.
