Police in Gilgil have detained a man who allegedly attacked and raped a British private school teacher.
The 24-year-old worker was arrested after he was linked to the attack.
The teacher was on her way to school when her assailant attacked her in a bushy area.
Police said the man, an employee in one of the homes in the gated community, threatened the woman with a knife.
"The suspect forced the woman in a thicket and raped her before fleeing," a source told the Star on Thursday.
Gilgil police boss Emmanuel Opuru said the suspect was arrested an hour after the incident.
He said the teacher was taken to a local health centre for treatment.
Meanwhile, residents lynched a suspected thug linked to the death of a prominent businessman.
The trader was attacked by thugs in Kinale on Thursday at dawn and was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital.
Josphat Kibe, a resident, said the trader identified his attacker before he died.
The man was hit on the head. He lost stole cash and other valuables.
The body was taken to the mortuary. Police in Kijabe investigating the matter.
