Seven form four students from Kikuumini secondary school in Makueni who were arrested in June for allegedly burning their dormitory have been charged with arson.

The boys were accused of jointly and willfully setting ablaze a dormitory and destroying property worthy Sh680,000 on June 2 this year.

Appearing before senior resident magistrate Damaris Karani, the suspects denied the charges and were released on Sh10, 000 bond

each.

One of

the boys depends on the Catholic church for his fees and upkeep since he is a total orphan.

Karani directed that the two be remanded at Machakos Remand Prison until August 2 this year when an application on their bail will be heard.

The magistrate decried their long stay in police custody.

The two had been held up at Emali Police Station since the date of arrest.

The case of the seven will resume on October 11 this year.
