Nairobians should not mistake challenges brought on by rains and other natural factors for poor performance, Governor Mike Sonko has said.

Sonko said this on Tuesday while defending his administration on the sorry state of most roads in the capital.

"The rains have come to an end. We are now going to embark on work that had been halted," he said on Tuesday while launching

the construction of Matopeni-Spring Valley estate access road in Embakasi Central.

He noted that he had

launched several infrastructure projects.

The Governor described himself as settled, and ready to work for the people, and told contractors that he will not be soft with them.

"Don't confuse a lion which has been rained on with a cat. We will show them what we are capable of in matters development," he said.

The county chief blasted those claiming he has

employed his people for the clean-up programme known as Ng’arisha Jiji (clean the city).

"I categorically state that we have not employed anyone. We know that procedures and the law have to be followed. We will do it in a systematic way. Youths from all the wards will be employed."

The Governor commissioned two other roads

in Langata and Wetlands constituencies.

South B MCA Waithera Chege praised the Governor for the projects, saying his strict policies, especially in the war on corruption, have resulted

in development.

“I'm really happy that a dilapidated road, which had been problematic to motorists and commuters, is being fixed," she said.

Srping Valley/Matopeni MCA and Majority Leader Abdi Guyo asked residents to be patient with Sonko.

The road work will include construction of pedestrian walkways and improvement of drainage systems.

Transport executive Mohamed Dagane

said the projects will cost Sh900 million in total.
