Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has directed the IPOA to ensure police officers implicated in the murder of a Briton who was under their custody are arrested and prosecuted.

The order follows a ruling on Thursday by Mombasa senior principal magistrate Richard Odenyo that linked four cops in the murder of Alexander Monson on May 19, 2012.

"The DPP gave directions after perusing & studying today's ruling by Msa SPM Richard Odenyo recommending that Naftali Chege, John Pamba, Charles Wangombe & Ishamel Baraka be charged with the murder," the DPP's office said in a tweet.

Odenyo said an inquest into the death of the Briton had linked them to his death.

Monson died after being arrested at a club in Diani, Kwale County in what two pathologists said was as a result of being hit by a blunt object.

Odenyo dismissed a claim by the suspects that Monson died of drug overdose.

He termed it an attempt to cover up the murder since their testimonies contradicted their statements.

According to the magistrate, tests showed that Monson had no cocaine in his blood at the time of his death while tests on his urine allegedly tested positive for the drug.
