Over 500 philanthropists and volunteers from East Africa are in Kenya for discussions on how to solve emerging challenges in the region.
The philanthropists who operate under Rotary International are drawn from over 60 Rotary Clubs that operate in Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and South Sudan as shown in a press statement.
“We will discuss how we can come up with sustainable solutions to deal with challenges in our six areas of focus, namely: disease prevention & treatment, maternal & child health, basic education & literacy, water and sanitation, peace and conflict resolution, economic & community development,” Rotary Governor of District 9212 Peter Mbui said ahead of the conference set to kick off this Friday.
The theme of the Rotary annual District Conference & Assembly is; “Rotary; making a difference”.
The meeting will be addressed by speakers drawn from public and private sectors and the media fraternity.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, Group CEO Centum Investments James Mworia, World Health Organisation director-general Tedros Adhanom and Samburu West Member of Parliament Naisula Lesuuda will be among the speakers.
In Kenya, Rotary clubs have raised more than $ 800 million(Sh80.96 billion) for over 300 community projects in the areas of disease prevention and treatment, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, water and sanitation, peace and conflict resolution, economic and community development.
