Six people were killed in a grisly road accident at Mariakani on Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
A mother and her two children were among those killed in the Saturday accident.
Coast traffic commandant Emmanuel Okanda said the six died after a lorry collided with a matatu.
The matatu was heading to Voi from Mombasa.
"Three people died on the spot while others died at Coast General Hospital," Okanda said.
The police boss said they are looking for the driver of the lorry who escaped.
"The driver of the lorry was overtaking when it collided with the matatu."
He said that once arrested, the lorry driver will be charged with reckless driving.
