Matiang'i, however, cautioned police officers against raising their complaints through social media and encouraged use of channels provided by the police service.

“We assure police officers and Kenyans that this issue is being looked at and that a solution will be found,” he said.

The Minister pointed out that only about 150 police officers have complained about the pay cut and that the national police service is in the process of determining how they were awarded higher salaries in the first place.

“We are in the process of cleaning up the entire police service payroll system to ensure officers are paid in accordance to their cadre,” he said.

Matiang'i noted that some police officers present fake documents during recruitment but noted these will be scrutinised as part of the digitisation process.

He urged Kenyans to give IG Joseph Boinnet time to streamline the human resource issues that have cropped up in the force.

While visiting Githumu police station in Kandara sub -county, the CS said it will be renovated and

pledged to mobilise funds for new houses for all officers as some are living in deplorable conditions.

The Cabinet Secretary was shocked to find that the local OCS lives in a colonial and dilapidated house.

He said the government will use modern technology to ensure the construction is completed in the shortest time possible.

“These houses will greatly improve the welfare of police officers countrywide,” he said, adding

Githumu police station will also be renovated and police houses constructed at Sh10 million,

On the war on drugs and illicit brews, the CS warned that administrators who let the businesses thrive will be sacked.

He said the government will also burn all the gambling machines confiscated by security officers as school-going children are at risk.

“We will organise to have them all burnt even though traders are threatening to take us to court,” he said.
