The Meru High Court has ordered former governor Peter Munya to advertise in a national newspaper his petition withdrawal.

Judge Francis Gikonyo said the notice should be published on Wednesday as parties have agreed.

"The petitioner is no longer keen on pursuing the petition. Therefore he prays that a day for hearing the application be appointed," Munya's lawyer Gitonga Martin said on Monday.

Munya filed a petition challenging the election of Governor Kiraitu Murungi, citing discrepancies and rigging.

More on this:

He applied to withdraw the petition last week following a unity plea by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Gitonga said they had served Kiraitu and IEBC and they were in consent.

"I confirm parties were served by November 29 on withdrawal of the petition and on behalf the respondents I confirm parties pleased if the court dispense to withdraw the petition under rule 21," said Kiraitu's lawyer Mutuma Kibanga.

The judge said the matter will be heard on December 14.
