Kisii, Nyamira tea farmers paid Sh835 million bonus

Thirty three thousand tea farmers from Kisii and Nyamira counties have received bonuses totaling Sh835 million.

CEO Isaac Omwenga said the money was channeled through the

Kenya Tea Development Agency.

"We had 27,000 members in 2016 but the number rose because of our good services," he told the press in Kisii town on Saturday.

Omwenga asked farmers to open accounts with the sacco because this will limit their spending. He noted those with fixed accounts are better off.

"This will guarantee them the safety of their money," he said, adidng the farmers have been educated on the importance of having accounts.

Omwenga reported that

1,350 groups have benefited from loans worth Sh437 million.

"The beneficiaries are those who run small businesses and dairy farmers,” he said.

The chief executive officer said youths can also open accounts for funds to grow their businesses. He said they can get loans at reasonable charges and save to earn interest.

Noting the sacco has 150, 000 shareholders, Omwenga urged residents to buy shares so they can earn dividends.
