Security personnel on Tuesday resisted an attempt by heavily armed bandits to disrupt construction of Kainuk bridge.
They believe the ambush was by attackers from West Pokot county.
The claim is that the bandits want to be hired as construction workers.
Witnesses said the gang fired at the officers forcing them to retaliate. A heavy exchange ensued with police drawn from the AP, National Police Reserve and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit.
After they were overpowered in the attack at about 11am, the bandits fled towards Sarmach village in West Pokot.
In an address concerning the ambush, Turkana South OCPD Lazurus
assured residents and workers at the bridge that security will be beefed up.
The bridge was destroyed by heavy rains last week and is being
constructed by Chinese company - Chico - and supervised by KenHA.
