Two police officers were shot dead by armed bandits at Lokichar, Turkana on Friday night.

One bandit was also killed following the exchange with officers.

Area OCPD Lazarus Wambua said four bandits had boarded a lorry carrying stolen sugar from another lorry.

"As they reached Lokichar they didn't realise we were tracking them. We stopped them [but] the driver sped off towards the road block," he said.

He said the bandits opened fire, killing Sergeant Adan Bir and Constable Abdalla Barrisa.

Corporal Jared Okoth survived the attack with injuries on his right hand.

Wambua said they arrested one bandit, while the other two escaped.

He said police are looking for the suspects and asked residents to assist with investigations.
