The Turkana school where seven people were killed by suspected Toposa militia on Saturday has been closed indefinitely.
County director of education Pius Ong'oma
confirmed this on Monday, noting tension is high following the killings at Lokichogio Mixed Secondary School.
"We have closed the school to ease the tension and allow police to carry on with investigations."
Tension rose in Kakuma on Sunday evening following reports two more suspects were arrested over the shooting at a school in Turkana county.
Residents of the Turkana West claimed police were holding two more people reportedly apprehended in Lokichogio while on their way to South Sudan.
They insisted the suspects were taken to Kakuma police station.
Resident
Timothy Ochwany said the crowd stormed the police station yesterday and demanded the suspects be let out for lynching.
Turkana West OCPD David Nyabuto said security has been increased and that they were working with South Sudan authorities to arrest the attackers.
On
Monday
morning, Turkana Senator Malik Ekal visited survivors at Lodwar referral hospital.
"I urge Education and acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to review events of the attack."
Ekal
asked the government to deploy security officers along the school's borders.
He also told head teachers to prioritise the vetting of potential students before admitting them.
"This is the only way to reduce indiscipline cases."
