Multi-agency detectives at the Port of Mombasa seized two 40-foot containers with six Range Rovers on Tuesday.

The cargo was

disguised as household items but investigators found the consignee did not want to pay

millions of shillings in tax.

A manifest obtained by The Star shows the sports cars were loaded on August 12 and 13.

The first container was loaded in the port city of Felixstowe, Britain, and the cars concealed as

104 boxes of stationery, 86 pieces of office tables, boxing gym equipment, 300 boxes of rollerskates and 140 boxes of skateboarding equipment.

The cargo was registered on code

39249000 as being on transit to Focus CFS in Mombasa.

The second container

was loaded in the port city of Khor Fakkan

in Dubai and the contents disguised as 300 bags of skateboarding equipment, 85 bags of soft baby toys,140 wraps of bouncy castles, 85 boxes of tennis equipment, 85 boxes of cricket bats and 110 bags of rollerskating equipment.

Detectives are hunting consignees Santos Nyangala and Kim Johnson so they can give more information on the syndicate.

“This is a big syndicate...some of our officers think the systems are still old school...they have been digitised, a

source told The Star but noted all those involved will be prosecuted.

Senior officials at the Kenya Revenue Authority, including customs commissioner Julius Musyoki, did not want to comment immediately.

An official who did not want to be named

said they will respond next week through official channels.
