A section of Luhyas living in Nairobi have urged the President and Nairobi Governor-elect Mike Sonko to consider them in appointments.
Former Nairobi senator aspirant Gabriel Chapia, popularly known as Chapia Chapia, and Isaac Andabwa boss of the
Kenya National Private Security Workers Union led the group in making the request on Thursday.
The noted the
community voted overwhelmingly for President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto.
“As the Luhya community, we participated in one way or another in ensuring the President, Sonko and[Senator-elect Johnson] Sakaja were elected,” Andabwa told a press conference.
“Our community is one of the largest in Nairobi...it should be considered and supported economically."
Chapia, who was compelled to step down for ODM's Edwin Sifuna in the race, said the community has turned to Jubilee and appealed to Uhuru to “remember us.”
“The Mulembe nation voted for Jubilee and we are going to remain there. But we are appealing to the President and the governor-elect to remember us and stand with us as they form their government,” Chapia said.
“We campaigned with Sonko and Sakaja and they promised not to leave out the Mulembe nation in their government,” he said.
The leaders said Luhyas got a raw deal under he leadership of city Governor Evans Kidero who is a member of Raila's orange party.
They urged Sonko, who severely criticised Kidero as Senator, to listen to their plea.
“We only had two positions in the outgoing administration...that of the county secretary and lands CEC. Compare that with the number of votes we have," said Chapia.
