Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and his rival Bundotich Kiprop, also known as Buzeki, faced off during an Eid event in Eldoret on Sunday.
They both called for peaceful campaigns and each made pledges to woo voters ahead of the August 8 polls.
"I have nothing against my brother Mandago. We are both children of Uasin Gishu and whoever wins we have agreed that we will support each other. In face, I will give Mandago a job in my office," Buzeki said amid cheers.
But Mandago expressed confidence that he will retain his seat, saying he will employ Buzeki as his Trade minister.
"You know Buzeki is a businessman and this job of Trade executive in my government suits him."
The Governor said he has accommodated all the communities within his administration and provided them with an enabling environment for business.
Buzeki countered this claim saying Muslims have been denied some rights, including getting ID cards.
"Once I take over as governor, I will ensure that in areas where you live, we install street lights and good roads so that you enjoy doing business not as the situation is currently," he said.
The independent candidate said residents should choose their leaders based on their policies.
"You should listen to us carefully and then go home and think about our policies then decide," Buzeki added.
Mandago asked Buzeki to give him an opportunity to have a second term, saying "Five years is not a lot surely ... allow me to complete what I have started".
"[President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto] know they will get votes for the presidency but as for other seats, Kenyans have been asked to decide for themselves," Buzeki said in response.
Buzeki lost out to Mandago in the Jubilee primaries in April.
