At least five passengers sustained minor injuries when a matatu they were travelling in veered into a ditch in Homa Bay town on Friday.

Witnesses said the 14-seater vehicle ended up in the ditch after the driver lost control as he was negotiating a corner.

Residents took the injured to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for treatment.

The driver is said to have disappeared shortly after.

Area OCPD Esau Ochorokodi asked residents and passengers with information to report the whereabouts of the driver.

"My officers visited the hospital and found the injured had been discharged," he said.

He said they are investigating the incident.
