Police have declined the request by presidential candidate Abduba Dida (pictured) for 20 security guards and instead offered him two.

He also rejected the government’s offer and chased away the two GSU officers sent to guard him as he campaigns for President. Dida, a retired secondary school teacher, is making a second attempt for State House.

He vied for the same position in 2013, and only garnered 52,840 votes.

Dida has vowed to petition Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to increase the security officers attached to him. He also wants the government to provide the police officers attached to him with vehicles, which they will use during the campaigns.

Police have also declined to a request of 15 police officers made by presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot.

Aukot, of the Thirdway Alliance Kenya, had requested the IG to send him police officers, drawn mainly from the General Duty, but previously GSU officers.

The team charged with looking into the VIP demands however, offered him two officers and directed that Aukot can always walk to any police station and request for additional security.

He had asked the police to send 15 officers, who will be attached to his running mate Emmanuel Nzai, his wife, parents and children.

On June 8, Boinnet declined a request by NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga for 50 police officers.

Raila, who enjoys the protection of 16 officers, had requested for an additional 34 officers and police vehicles.
