The supporters of rival governor aspirants in Homa Bay county have designed flags for their candidates and hoisted them in various parts of Homa Bay town.
The supporters of incumbent Cyprian Awiti have raised flags bearing his portrait and nickname ‘Akuba’, while those of Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga also have his portrait and nickname ‘Tiacha’.
On Monday, many residents were stunned when two youths and a section of supporters dutifully hoisted and lowered Magwanga’s flags in the town.
They also sang a song, which praises Magwanga and castigates his rival.
Speaking to journalists during the event, Ndhiwa ODM youth leader Ogallo Aketch said they devised the method to show solidarity with Magwanga.
He said residents support Magwanga as he won in the ODM nominations in April, but his victory was stolen.
In official results, Magwanga lost to Awiti and registered as an independent.
