The national government has released Sh74.5 million salary arrears for former PanPaper employees a day to a scheduled visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The employees received their cheques during a function at the factory presided over by Industrialisation PS Nduati Mwangi.
Speaking during the function on Friday, Mwangi said, “The President promised the government will pay all the arrears of staff who worked before the company collapsed and today I fulfill the promise.”
He said more than 1,400 staff will benefit from the scheme.
Mwangi said the money had been handed over to audit giant PwC, who are the receiver managers. He said the receiver managers were instructed to ensure the money is paid to workers not later than this week.
