Two-time world marathon champion Edna Kiplagat is determined to win her third title at the IAAF World Championships in London in August.
Edna entered the history books after successfully defending her world marathon title at the 2013 Moscow World Championship after winning the 2011 crown in Daegu.
Edna said she is ready to lead the country once again after Kenya won the overall title at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing. “I am happy that once again I will be flying Kenya’s flag in London. This is very inspiring for me and I will try my best to make Kenyans proud,” she said.
Edna said winning a medal for her will be key especially after being left out of the Rio Olympics squad last year. However, the athlete has had a stellar run since, finishing second in Chicago last year and winning Boston last April. “After winning Boston in 2:21:52, I felt I was in good shape for the season. My target is to go for a third title God willing and I believe the secret is in hard training,” she added.
Edna will lead world silver medallist Hella Kiprop, Paris Marathon winner Purity Rionoripo to London. Commonwealth Games champion Philomena Cheyech and Valentine Kipketer, who finished second in 2016 Chicago Marathon are the reserves in the category. Edna has a personal best time of 2:19.50, which sheposted at the 2012 London Marathon.
