Raphael Tuju has been accused of giving Kisumu senator aspirant Ochoro Ayoki the Jubilee ticket before his resignation from ODM.

Ayoki was not cleared by the IEBC on Sunday as he is a member of both ODM and Jubilee. He was to present his papers by 8am on Monday after clearing with the Registrar of Political Parties.

County JP chairman Zuberi Liete said the secretary general

was "squarely to blame" for the technicality as he did not consult them "to avoid such an embarrassment".

“How did they give Ayoki the ticket without confirming whether he was in Jubilee or ODM? This is shameful," he said.

“If an aspirant can be given 24 hours to resign from ODM, where was he to confirm whether he was in Jubilee or not?”

The chairman further claimed there is "a lot of blackmail" at Jubilee headquarters in Nairobi and that Tuju and his team did not consult during the vetting of aspirants.

Liete said Tuju and other top officials must stop sidelining their junior counterparts if they want to make Jubilee more vibrant in Nyanza.

"There are people in this party who are not serious with what they want to be. I have been insisting that if you have to be in Jubilee, you must be a real member,” he said.

The chairman wondered whether officials at Jubilee's headquarters have President Uhuru Kenyatta's interests at heart, where the Nyanza region is concerned.

He said they must change their approach to party activities to woo voters in the region perceived to be an Opposition stronghold.

“We do not have real TNA and URP members in the offices in Nyanza, Kisumu especially. [We need this for harmony]," he said.

He added:

“People should stop asking us what we did as the county officials. Tuju should come clean if they consulted the county officials about the vetting of that aspirant,” he said.

Liete insisted that membership should not be based on sycophancy but the image of the party in the region.
