Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga on Sunday took a swipe at government for lying to Kenyans on the cost of living.

The government's subsidised and branded maize flour is in supermarkets but several outlets have limited customers to just two packets each.

Two kilogramme packs are retailing at Sh90 and members of the public had planned to buy in bulk. One kilo packs are being sold at about half the price.

More on this:

"Wanalipa wakulima wa Mexico halafu wanasema eti unga ni Sh90. Hii unga iko kwa DP Ruto na Statehouse kwa Uhuru Kenyatta," Raila said when he addressed supporters at Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi.

This loosely translates to: "They are paying Mexicans then they say flour is Sh90. This flour is at DP William Ruto's and in State House at President Uhuru Kenyatta's."

Raila who was cleared by the IEBC as a presidential candidate said Nasa is ready to face Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta in August elections.

The Opposition leader was cleared by IEBC to contest in the August 8 general elections.

Raila was issued a nomination certificate by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati at the KICC in Nairobi.

More on this:

"Tukishika utawala, ndani ya siku 90 gharama ya maisha itarudi chini, bei ya unga, sukari, maziwa na kodi ya nyumba itarudi chini," he said.

"Within the first 90 days we will ensure the cost of living goes down and the price of flour, sugar, milk and rent goes down."

The ODM party leader said when Nasa assumes power, they will employ jobless people without discrimination.

"Vijana watapata kazi, akina mama watapata haki yao, vilema watapata haki yao na usalama itakuweko," he said.

"Youths, women and disabled people will attain their rights and security will be guaranteed."

Raila said Kenyans can no longer keep quiet with the mistreatment from the government adding that Jubilee has to go home.

"Hatuwezi kuvumilia na watu wachache wanakaa kama kupe wanaonyonya damu yetu. I am Joshua, and Kalonzo is Caleb. We are going into the promised land," he said.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka who is Raila's running mate drummed support for the opposition leader saying the time to change Kenya is now.

"Jubilee will have to go home in August. Flour is a commodity of interest and Jubilee should know that someone who is hungry is angry," he said.

Kalonzo congratulated Raila for being cleared by IEBC adding that DP William Ruto will be the downfall of Uhuru Kenyatta

"Ruto atafanya Uhuru aende nyumbani kwa sababu wanainchi wamechoka na hii serikali," he said.

"Raila will send Uhuru home because Kenyans are tired of this government."

Nasa co principal Isaac Rutto said Jubilee must brace themselves for a tough contest.

"They will see the real tyranny of numbers. Tukisema tuko na njaa mnatuambia tukule kwa macho...hiyo nyama ni kazi yetu, ni ushuru yetu, (When we say we are hungry, you tell us to simple watch. That meat is our work, and our taxes)" he said.

But Mombasa governor took a swipe at the government saying he will grace the launch of SGR next week and ask unanswered questions.

Uhuru will commission the first phase of the SGR on May 31. Senior Chinese officials will attend the launch with Uhuru expected to address residents along the route.

"Nataka nipate nafasi niende kwa hiyo jukwaaa niwaulize pesa wameiba wamepeleka wapi? Nataka niwaambie ile marupu rupu wamepata lazima warudishie Wakenya," he said.

Joho said the cost of living has risen to an extent that Kenyans cannot enjoy taking tea with sugar.

"Sahi kule kwetu ukinywa chai huwezi kunywa na sukari, huwezi kunywa chai na maziwa... bei ya maziwa na sukari lazima ishuke chini tukienda ikulu," he said.

"Tutachunga kura . Tutatalala, tutakesha, tutakula, tutaoga, tutakunywa mpaka kura yetu iingie kule kituoni."
