Karachuonyo MP James Rege has said is taking a break from elective politics until 2022 where he intends to vie for a bigger post in Homa Bay.
He said his association with the Jubilee
party led to frustration in his relationship with ODM's leadership.
“I’m tired of the party affairs where some people are out to suppress
the views of others for theirs to prevail,” Rege said on Friday.
He was speaking at Kendu Bay show grounds as he rolled out the NYS programme in his constituency.
Rege claimed that he withdrew support from ODM because some
unnamed leaders within the party did not respect him and went as far
as hurling insults on him.
He said the leaders did not wish him well in the party and his
political ambitions.
"They castigated me as a mole yet I was a faithful and committed life member," he said.
He said he had maintained his association with the Jubilee administration to pursue a development agenda for his constituents.
"Taking a break from elective politics does not mean I'm a coward of being trounced by opponents. In fact, I could have won by a big margin if I participated in the ODM primaries," the MP said.
The MP who was elected on ODM ticket in 2007 and 2013 said he
understands the party, adding that shambolic nominations witnessed in
the party is not new to him.
“Elect good leaders in this year’s election without necessarily going
for a political party,” he said.
But he will be one of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election
campaigners in Nyanza region.
Rege, who will be leaving President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election campaign in the region said his close ranks with the Jubilee
administration has benefited the residents.
He cited improved electricity network and opened murram roads.
“The 1,000 youths absorbed in NYS programme in the constituency are
some of the benefits we’ve got from Jubilee administration,” he said.
He said the national government is set to undertake the construction
of 82km road and Sh1.3 billion water project in the constituency.
Accompanied by NYS deputy director Sam Michuki, Rege urged the
government to consider training the youths on sports and ICT to
improve their skills of work.
