Kenya Methodist University has closed some of its campuses and sacked over 150 employees.

Vice Chancellor Henry Kiriamiti said in a signed letter that the institution is undertaking a "restructuring process to enhance its effectiveness and competitiveness".

It attributed the move to "dynamics affecting the education sector in the entire Kenyan economy".

Among the campuses closed are Kisii, Nyeri and Nakuru counties. Affected students will be taken to the Meru campus.

According to a retrenchment notice,

KeMU's university council resolved to let go of staff following a meeting that was

held on Monday last week.

The institution also

postponed its 17th graduation ceremony that was to be held on July 22 to October 14.

KeMU has campuses in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Nyeri and Kisii as well as a presence in Meru town, Maua and Marimanti.
