Posta Rangers coach Sammy Omollo was awarded the Fidelity Insurance/Sports Journalists Association of Kenya coach for the month of April after an impressive run in the Kenyan Premier League.
Rangers are yet to lose a match and with a run of four victories last month, it was inevitable then that Omollo whose side lie second in the league was worthy of the award that came with a personalised plaque and Sh75,000 cash prize.
The title winning coach with Tusker in 2011 was elated at the recognition but like all previous winners raved at the role of the players in him getting the recognition.
“Without a doubt the performance of the players is at the centre if this award and I am just a representative, receiving it on behalf of the team. The players have worked hard throughout pre-season and the start of the league and we are where we are on merit. I know our results have marked as out as title contenders and it’s a situation we are relishing,” said Omollo.
After 11 matches, Posta have emerged as the quintessential title dark-horses as they sit in second place with 23 points, two behind current league leaders and hot favourites for a record breaking 16th league crown, Gor Mahai.
Omollo’s mail-men unbeaten record will be tested to the hilt when he takes them to Nakuru to face in from third-placed Ulinzi Stars.
