Obuya, Gurdeep steer Kenya XI past visiting Malaysia

Collins Obuya and Gurdeep Singh smashed sparkling half centuries as Kenya XI dealt Malaysia a 111-run humiliation in their second match at Nairobi Jaffreys.
Obuya and Singh scored 59 and 54 runs respectively to lay the platform for victory as the hosts piled on 287 with a ball to spare.
Kenya XI bowlers shared wickets to bowl out the Malaysians for 176 with 62 balls to play.
Obuya and Singh put on a fourth wicket stand of 101 runs to give the host team a comfortable lead half way through the inning.
Joining in the 36th over, the two piled up the hundred runs stand in less than 10 overs. Obuya hit only a six and three boundaries from 93 balls as they made the fielders toil on the Jaffreys ground in his stand with Singh.
After Obuya was bowled by Viradeep Singh, the Sikh Union Nairobi left-handed batsman continued with his onslaught on the visitors adding on 36 with Nelson Odhiambo (41).
Singh fell to Khizar Kahat after having faced 76 balls that had three boundaries. Odhiambo then went on to share a 56 runs stand for the sixth wicket with Shem Obado (35) that lifted Kenya’s score to 276 with two overs to play.
Derek Michael who had reduced Kenya XI to 11 for 1 ended up as the chief destroyer of the Kenyans with three more wickets in the end to finish with 4 for 55. He began his journey to a good spell with the dismissal of Abraham Vadada on five before adding on Odhiambo, Hiren Varaiya and Elijah Otieno.
Malaysia had a good start putting on 109 for 2 but blew away the decent start when they kept on losing wickets regularly midway through the chase. After losing the first wicket in the first over with no run scored, the visitors who beat Kenya Select by nine wickets managed to build their inning up with a second wicket stand of 45 runs.
Ahmad Faiz and Virandeep Singh however manged to pile up the inning with a third wicket stand of 64 runs before Odhiambo ended the stand with the dismissal of Faiz of 54 from 85 balls.
