Football Kenya Federation clubs will now be required to transact their player transfer business through the FIFA International Transfer Matching System (ITMS).
This follows a three-day training programme for local club representatives held under the auspices of the world football governing body.
Local players who feature in the home leagues stand to be the biggest beneficiaries as potential employers and current contract holders will have to key in the details of the transaction into the Fifa as opposed to the current unprocedural way of doing business.
This will help curb rising issues of players being denied the opportunity to search for greener pastures in other leagues and global transfer of minors.
Laura Corica, head Itms of training at Fifa, said the objective of the training was to educate club representatives regarding player transfers. She said: “It is all about transparency in the transfer of a player. We are here to exchange knowledge and ideas on the same and see how clubs will adjust to the international way. We are here to spread the knowledge on Fifa regulations and share experiences.”
Prisca Mutesi,a legal council, integrity and compliance at Fifa Itms, said Kenyan clubs should be aware of the international transfer standards and be able to implement them.
FKF’s representative Barry Otieno, said the federation expects clubs to cooperate in a move to ensure the success of the new player transfer system. “The federation is ready to work with clubs for the benefit of the players.”
Wazito CEO Luthers Mokua said his club is ready to comply with the standards and open chances for players from abroad to feature in his club.”I applaud the move by the federation to align with FIFA in this move. Clubs should be able to manage player transfers with regards to international systems. Wazito is ready to comply we are already registered and ready to recruit international players.”
