Busia county has moved
in to repair a section of a
road
under the
national government, following residents’ complaints.
Public Works executive
Bernard Yaite
said, “We tried to talk to Kenha to repair the road on numerous occasions, but the response has been slow and the
road was deteriorating.”
The county has spread gravel on the road and compacted it as a stopgap measure.
“This is not a permanent solution because commercial vehicles pass there. We call on Kenha to act as a matter of urgency,” Yaite said.
He said
the county has done
its best
by opening up feeder roads. “ Although we have experienced heavy rains,
we have tried to rehabilitate the damaged
sections.”
Yaite said contractors are tarmacking 11 roads in Busia and six in Malaba. He said talks are ongoing with the British High Commission to
expand the road.
