Police have been deployed in various polling centres in the city as Jubilee conducts its hotly

contested primaries.

Team Nairobi aspirants Mike Sonko,

Former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru

will face it off with former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.

They are battling for the Nairobi governor's seat that is held by ODM's Evans Kidero who got a direct

nomination.

A spot check by the Star on Wednesday indicated that GSU officers were deployed around the polling stations to curb any form of violence that may erupt.

The main hotspots include Starehe, Dagorreti South, Kamukunji, Kasarani, Roysambu and Embakasi East, Embakasi West and Embakasi Central.

Ballot papers were escorted under security to the centres ahead of the start of the exercise.

There were complaints of missing names from supporters on registers being used.

Nairobi residents were seen on the queues in many polling stations as early as 4 am.

The Jubilee Party has allowed anyone with an identification card to vote.

There had been speculation that Kenneth was going to step down for Sonko.

Sources within the party intimated that the negotiations for consensus between Sonko and Kenneth are still ongoing.

But Peter Kenneth last week said he is not aware of any talks for him step down from Nairobi governor race in favour of Sonko.

He said he was going to be on the ballot and that he was expecting free and fair nominations on Wednesday.

"I am not aware of talks happening that would lead to consensus."

"Talks that I have been offered a Cabinet Secretary position to step down for Sonko are untrue," he told Citizen TV on Sunday.
