Siaya county governor Cornel Rasanga has welcomed losers in the ODM nominations concluded Wednesday to join hands with him.

He urged Nicholas Gumbo (Rarieda MP) and businessman William Oduol to consider working with him ahead of the August 8 polls.

Rasanga was declared the winner of the polls after he garnered 143,446 votes against Gumbo's 87,467 in the hotly contested poll.

He told journalists that the few challenges experienced during the polls were normal hailing the process as generally free and fair.

"I welcome them to my campaign secretariat so that we spur development in Siaya to greater heights," Rasanga said after he won.

He congratulated all the aspirants who took part in the poll urging them to bring their ideas on board for a better county.

"Elections come and go but people remain. I am a very reconciliatory leader. I have no problem with my opponents."

"I want to mainly welcome Nicholas Gumbo to work under my umbrella to propel development in Siaya," he said on Wednesday.

The county chief told residents that the biggest task is to ensure that ODM leader Raila Odinga also wins the August 8 polls.

Siaya Senator James Orengo, unlike his competitors, only campaigned for two days without posters and banners and won the primaries.

Orengo garnered 140,749 votes against his close competitor Argwings Kodhek's 9,852; Margaret Oketch got 7,099 votes.

Siaya woman rep Dr Christine Ombaka also won with 71,241 votes against Florence Aluodo who got 27, 519 votes.

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi also crushed his close competitors with 24,038 votes against Otieno Aluru's 764.

Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo, Raila's cousin, was defeated by Elisha Odhiambo who garnered 13,400 against the MP's 8,900.

Midiwo, however, contested the results saying that the figures were skewed in favor of Odhiambo.

He said he will not appeal the outcome but will inform the people of Gem of his next move.

In Ugenya, veteran KTN journalist David Ohito was overwhelmed by Chris Karan.

In Alego Usonga, the incumbent Muluan Omondi lost to Samuel Atandi whereas Gideon Ochanda beat Oburu to retain the Bondo MP ticket.

Oburu has asked for a vote recount citing malpractices in the poll where Ochanda got 28,446 votes against the nominated MP's 4,000.

He claimed that most of the polling stations in Bondo were raided by Ochanda’s supporters and his agents kicked out.
