President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned
former Foreign Affairs Minister Munyua Waiyaki as well as 26
people who died in a road accident at Kambu on the Nairobi – Mombasa highway on Monday night.
Uhuru described the late Waiyaki as an illustrious son of Kenya and a pioneer diplomat who played a leading role in laying the foundation for the country’s post-independence development.
“As we mourn and pay homage to this visionary leader, let us also celebrate his life and achievements. Although Hon. Waiyaki has left us, his inspirational life will remain a great legacy to his family and the nation,” the President said.
Waiyaki, 91, died Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
The President also sent a message of condolence to the families, relatives, and friends of the 26 bus
passengers who lost their lives in a road accident at Kambu in Kibwezi.
He urged motorists to
be extra careful and observe traffic rules to avoid road accidents.
Uhuru wished a quick recovery to those injured in the accident and are either recuperating at home or admitted in various hospitals.
