ODM nominations in Homa Bay were marred by hitches after voting materials delayed.

By 9:30am, the materials had not reached most polling stations for the exercise to kick off.

This was despite a high turnout of voters who started streaming into the centres from 6am.

Tom Cheriga, the county elections board chairman, said they had logistical challenges.

"We had a shortage of vehicles to transport the ballot materials to the polling stations."

The party's national elections board, however, dispatched the materials by Sunday.

"We urge for patience. Enough vehicles have been hired and the polls will begin at the earliest time," Cheriga said.

He expressed confidence the election process go on smoothly and peacefully.

The polls' focus is on the Governor and senator seats as well as in Suba where key Raila Odinga's allies are taking part.

Governor Cyprian Awiti is squaring it off with Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga and ex-NIS official Sammy Wakiaga.

The race for the ticket to seek the top county seat has also attracted businessmen Enosh Bolo and Cosmas Kanyadudi.

Senator Moses Kajwang is under pressure to defend his seat against former NSSF boss Fred Rabong'o.

In Suba, ODM national chairman John Mbadi is competing with ex-Raila aide Caroli Omondi and Jackline Nyandeje.

In Mbita, incumbent Millie Odhiambo is competing with Judy Kamaria, businesman Jim Akali and Humphrey Obach.

Caroli said they were disappointed over the delays in the distribution of voting materials.

He said the delay is likely to cause low turnout of voters across the county.

"Those who went to the polling stations early in the morning have gone back to their daily activities," Caroli said.

The aspirant urged the county election board to extend voting time to ensure residents cast their votes.

ODM has postponed nominations in Siaya and Kisumu counties to Tuesday citing unavoidable circumstances.

National Elections Board chairperson Judy Pareno said the primaries will now be conducted on April 25.

"The exercise, however, proceeds without alteration in Migori and Homa Bay," she said in a statement on Monday.

The nominations began in Migori and Homa Bay although most centres reported delays in the delivery of poll materials.

Long queues started building as early as 6am but most stations opened hours later and the polls went on.
