A 29-year-old man has surrendered himself to police in Bungoma saying he killed his pregnant sister.

Kizito Wafula told officers at Siritayi police station that he murdered Abigail Wafula, 16, at Misemwa village in Kanduyi.

The standard eight pupil of Ngoli Primary School

is said to have died after being kicked in the stomach.

Their father Emmanuel Wafula said the

disagreement between the two started when the family learned the girl was pregnant.

"My daughter died as we were struggling to get a motorcycle to take her to the hospital," Wafula said.

"Kizito is usually highly tempered. We had warned him against fighting with his pregnant sister."

Noting Abigail was index number 16, the man said the family expected her to do well in KCPE.

"We sacrificed a lot to ensure she did not drop out of school," he said.

His wife could not speak to the media as she was overcome by emotions.

Neighbours who flocked the home condemned the incident.

Area assistant chief Alfred Wefafa termed it an embarrassment to the community.

The chief said he suspected Kizito was drunk at the time he committed the offence.

"I have known Kizito for some time. He has a lot of love for the bottle."

Wefafa said that Kizito, who was taken to Bungoma police station, will be charged with murder.

Police officers took the body to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.
