A businessman, who is running for MCA Starehe seat, and alleged to be masquerading as a doctor at Nairobi Hospital, has been charged in a Nairobi court with obtaining goods worth more than Sh3.7 million by false pretences.

Joseph Waweru, alias doctor, denied obtaining 1,984 versatile iron sheets and 520 ridges from Winmax Global Company Ltd at Bishop Magua Centre, on Ngong road, Nairobi.

Waweru is alleged to have said he is a representative of BUPA International , a UK based health insurance provider. Milimani chief magistrate Francis Andayi released Waweru on a bond of Sh 900,000 or cash bail of Sh 250,000 pending the hearing of the case on May 15.

The prosecution told the court Waweru’s case will be consolidated with another, in which another businessman who claimed to be a doctor at the Aga Khan Hospital has been charged with a similar offence. Joel Dishon is out on cash bail of Sh 250,000 imposed on March 31 by principal magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot.
