Samburu police probe shooting of 14 year-old student

Police in Samburu are investigating an incident where a 14-year-old boy was severely injured in a gun attack.

The form two student was shot in the stomach and hand after he was accosted by unknown armed people at Natiti area, Baragoi.

Samburu county police commander Alfred Agengo said the victim is receiving treatment for the injuries.

"He is stable and can now talk. We hope he will provide us with information to help us arrest the suspects," he said.

A medical officer at the hospital said the two bullets passed through the boy's lower abdomen.

"We suspect his kidney and bladder are severely damaged," the medic, identified as Rajab, said.

The student was reportedly asked by the gang that he runs for his life before he was shot from the back.

Agengo urged residents with information that will help police arrest the suspects to share the same.

Samburu North MP Alloys Lentoimaga had asked the government to beef up security in the region.

Most parts of Samburu are prone to attacks instigated by a wave of cattle rustling.
