NYS staff charged with Sh100,000 theft of goods

Two NYS employees were on Monday charged with attempting to steal goods from the service,

Daniel Nyende and Joseph Weru with others not before the court are accused of attempting to steal 56 pieces of iron sheets and 73 cartons of floor tiles valued at Sh104,650.

It is said they committed the offence on March 27 at the National Youth Service headquarters,

Police said the suspects had been called by a driver to carry some goods to Mathere area and they agreed to a Sh4,000 transportation fee,

Nyende directed the driver with the items to the store.

Security officers at the premises became suspicious and asked the suspects what was going on, but they fled.

Officers gave chase and managed to arrest the driver and Nyende, while their accomplices escaped.

Weru was later arrested when he went back to the headquarters.

The two denied the charges and were released on a surety bond of Sh100,000 each.

The matter will be heard on July 17.
