Roadblocks, heavy security await Joho at police station

Heavy security awaits Hassan Joho on Wednesday as he makes his way to the Mombasa DCI to record a statement over forgery claims.

Joho has reportedly mobilised supporters to join him at the DCI. Currently, youths are milling around Joho's office as the Governor moves through town atop his vehicle waving to passersby and onlookers.

GSU and regular police have mounted roadblocks along the State House road Mombasa, while anti-riot officers have cordoned off the police headquarters.

Eight officers armed with G3 rifles, tear gas and battons are manning the entrance, while four others are at the adjacent gate.

Journalists have been asked to keep a distance of about 40 metres from the entrance.

The Mombasa county boss was summoned to appear at the Coast regional criminal investigations office over claims that he forged his examination results slip by claiming he sat for his secondary school examinations at Serani High School in 1992.

Pius Macharia, Coast DCI boss, in a March 27 letter asked the Governor to appear before a Samuel Nyambengi on Tuesday at 10am.

But the county boss said he would make his statement on Wednesday morning.

The last time the Governor was at the police headquarters after hundreds of supporters thronged the premises demanding his release.
