Hassan Joho is using his personal woes as a smokescreen for his administration's failure, Jubilee's Anania Mwaboza has said.

"The running of Mombasa county government has been characterised by showbiz theatrics, press conferences on the Governor's personal issues but no development record worth writing home about for the economy and residents," Mwaboza said in a statement on Tuesday.

He made the remarks shortly after Joho's latest press conference where he denied forging his secondary school national exam to get admission to the University of Nairobi.

Joho took "pride" in his D- in the 1993 KCSE examination, saying failure pushed him to succeed.

The county boss has been accused of presenting a forged 1992 examination result slip with a C+ mean grade for a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Human Resource Management.

But Mwaboza dismissed Joho's attempts, saying the Governor "goes to great lengths to ... blame anybody and everybody but himself".

“Joho’s move to call such a press conferences is not surprising. It is what defines Joho and his current legacy in Mombasa. it is what he lives for,” the former Kisauni MP said.

"We advise Joho that he uses, for once during his entire tenure as Governor, the county government platform and resources to tell the great people of Mombasa what he has achieved for them on the development front.

"It may be hard bearing the scantiness of such a record but it can be done,” Mwaboza added.

He told Joho to differentiate between his personal issues from the mandate for which he was elected Governor.

Over the past few weeks, Joho's political standing has been put to the test amid various allegations touching on his academic qualifications and business affiliations.

He has accused the Jubilee administration of using all tactics including coming up with narratives drive a certain agenda.

“They announced they will do anything to ensure I’m not on the ballot. We shall not be intimidated. They have initiated investigations into my birth certificate. They want to ask me questions. I’m ready to answer them,” Joho said.

Opposition chief Raila Odinga has defended Joho and censured President Uhuru Kenyatta for the continuous state crackdown on the Mombasa governor.

An angry Raila accused Uhuru of what he termed abuse of presidential powers, saying the era when his father Jomo Kenyatta threatened to crush opponents like maize flour is long gone.
