Bomb experts are investigating a case where two children were killed at Hareri Hosli, Mandera East after a device they were playing with exploded.

Three others were seriously injured during the Saturday incident believed to be terror related.

Area deputy county commissioner David Mbevi said the children picked the suspected hand grenade and started playing with it.

"One of the children died on the spot while the other died on arrival at Mandera county referral hospital," he said.

The injured were admitted to the same hospital. The children were aged between 13 and 15.

Mandera has over time suffered terror-related attacks believed to be instigated by al Shabaab militants.
